Zsa Zsa Leaves The Courtroom – 9/27/1989

US History |

On September 27th of 1989, Zsa Zsa Gabor stormed out of a federal courtroom during her trial.

Zsa Zsa was born in Hungary on February 6th of 1917. With the help of their mother, Zsa Zsa and her two sisters (but especially Zsa Zsa) became wealthy American actresses and socialites.

The Gabors were the Kardashians of their time. They were famous for being famous. Their media savvy mother had boldly come to America, attended elite parties, and whispered into the ears of partygoers, “Have you heard who is coming to L.A.? The Gabor sisters!” She made it sound so obvious that nobody was willing to admit that they had no idea who the Gabor sisters were, or what they were famous for. Zsa Zsa had been crowned Miss Hungary in 1936, but that was about it for her credits. And so it was that the rumor spread of the Gabor sisters coming to town.

Among the three Gabor sisters, Zsa Zsa was the most flamboyant, the most outspoken, and the biggest diva. Aside from her movie appearances, she is also known for her sense of humor, and for having nine husbands. She divorced seven of them, with one marriage annulled. With the exception of her current husband, none of these unions lasted more than five years. “I'm a marvelous housekeeper,” Zsa Zsa once said. “Every time I leave a man I keep his house.”

When someone asked “How many husbands have you had?” Zsa Zsa replied, “You mean, other than my own?” She was a shamelessly independent woman who insisted that she always chooses the man, and does not permit the man to choose her.

Zsa Zsa remained feisty, to say the least. On September 27th of 1989, 72-year-old Zsa Zsa, who was on trial for slapping police officer Paul Kramer during a traffic stop, stormed out of the courtroom as the prosecution insulted her, claiming that she “craves media attention” and “doesn't know the meaning of truth.” Zsa Zsa claimed that Paul Kramer was a star stalker who deliberately bothered celebrities, and claimed that her treatment from police was “like Nazi Germany.”

Truth be told, Kramer was citing Zsa Zsa for an expired license and an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. As he was writing this down, Zsa Zsa drove away. Kramer got into his car and caught up to her, and that's when she got out of her car and slapped him. She was convicted of slapping a police officer, driving with an expired license, and having an open container of alcohol in her vehicle. She refused to do community service, and spent three days in jail.

Zsa Zsa Gabor had one daughter with Conrad Hilton. Zsa Zsa was the only Gabor sister to have any children. Now 99 years old, bedridden, and nearing the end, Zsa Zsa reflects on her wild and exciting life as a movie star and socialite who traveled around the world. But the only thing she wishes she could do again is raise her daughter, because raising a child was the best time Zsa Zsa ever had.

Zsa Zsa's daughter died of a massive stroke in January of 2015. Her current husband has not told her the news.

I have always had a passion for writing since a young age and can still remember the first time a teacher assigned us to create our own newspaper it was my favorite project. In high school I wrote for the school newspaper and loved learning about new topics. I knew I found my new passion and as soon as I stepped foot on UCLA my mind was made up. Since getting my degree I have done all types of writing and love the freedom it gives me to work from anywhere. I hope you all love my writing as I am excited to produce quality articles each day for you!
